The Emerald Isle. Nothing provokes a sense of wanderlust like lush green fields, crashing waves under majestic cliffs and mysterious tree tunnels. There are so many different ways to see Ireland and although there is no wrong way to see it, there are some things that must be done in order to get the total experience.

Go with a tour guide

The best way to get an authentic feel of what Ireland is like and get the true history of the region is to go with a guide, preferably a tour bus. Many tour companies will save you the trouble of driving and booking hotels. Let them do the work for you and just worry about meals and excursions. It is also a great way to ensure that you will see most of the top attractions.

Get lost

After you are safely in a city, of course. Ditch the map and just walk around for a few hours. You will be surprised at what you see and you are almost guaranteed to find a hidden gem of a restaurant.

Kiss the Blarney Stone

One of the most famous attractions in Ireland allows you to climb a castle and kiss a stone to get “the gift of the gab” or eloquent speech.

Climb the Cliffs of Moher

(Shown in top left) The beautiful scenery will make for some pretty epic pictures, but the best part about it is the feeling you get once you climb to the top. Choose the right side if you like the safety of a wall and a big path or the left if you think you can conquer the narrow path. The best part is seeing the grass blow like waves in the wind, you can’t photograph that!

See the Giant’s Causeway

I regret not getting to see any part of Northern Ireland, but I am going there in March after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Causeway was caused by volcanic lava that turned the stones into perfect hexagonal formations. It is truly one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders.

Go to an authentic Irish pub

Dublin and Galway pubs are great, but the true Irish pubs are far away from tourists. They are dark, small, and only sell beer and play traditional music. These are the ones with more older folks than the younger ones.

Dance in the rain

If you didn’t get stuck in the rain, did you even go to Ireland? It rains a lot here, but might as well make the best of it.

Experience the Nightlife

When I went to Galway, I followed a pub crawl and actually had one of the best times of my life. I got to see many different types of bars and bond with people on my tour. I actually got to go to an American bar, which was a hilarious and great experience. The nightclub was very interesting and such a great time. Being from Miami, I was the best dancer in the room, which felt great! Definitely make time to see these things.

Go to a Brewery

It could be the huge Guinness Storehouse in Dublin or the small Crean’s brewery in Dingle, just go try some beer and see how it is made. Guinness actually lets you pour your own pint, so if you go there, definitely do that. It is much better in Ireland than anywhere else. Many people think it tastes like chocolate (okay, maybe that’s just me).

P.S. Check out all my Ireland pins!
